The Thompson Rivers University is a public teaching and research university in BritishColumbia, Canada. Being established in the year 1970, the Thompson Rivers University offers both the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and also vocational training. The university derived its name from the two rivers which converge in Kamloops, the North Thompson and South Thompson. The university's main campus is in Kamloops, British Columbia, which stands across the confluence of the North Thompson and South Thompson rivers where the school derived its name. Thompson Rivers University is currently home to
more than 25,000 students, including 14,000 students studying on campus. The university welcomes 3,500 international students in each semester. The students are offered with Study Abroad programmes to live and study in another country for one or two semesters as part of the university's extension programme. The Thompson Rivers University has also introduced a pre-admission service exclusively for the students of India, Bangladesh, Iran,Ghana and Nigeria, due to the high flow of applications coming in.

The students at the TRU can select from a large pool of over 140 on-campus courses and more than 60 Open Learning programs which includes bachelor's programmes, master's programmes, post-baccalaureates, PG certificates/diplomas, UG diploma, associate degrees, and various other programmes in TRU to its students. University also goes on to offer over 400 courses through the distance learning mode. These courses are offered in various formats like print-based, web-based, and online.Currently, 14,000+ students of the university study on-campus in the Kamloops campus, Williams Lake or even the regional centres across various locations. The remaining 11,000 students pursue education through the distance learning mode or the online mode. The Thompson Rivers University Students Union (TRUSU) has more than 70 clubs under it, in order to organize and engage in several extracurricular activities. The Kamloops main campus includes over 80 active student societies and clubs in dance, art and music, and sports. The TRU student life includes peer mentorship programs, student leadership, volunteer work, the Omega student newspaper and the news website.

International students applying for admission to Thompson Rivers University are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.33 (83%) in order to secure admission. The average Undergraduate tuition fee falls between 7,722 to 10,271 CAD (4.79 to 6.37 lakhs INR) while the postgraduate tuition fees range between 9,087 to 54,909 CAD (5.64 to 34.08lakhs INR).
